  3. Hope you dont mind me posting, but my dad Jimmy Briggs passed away today. A past winner of the Pairs along with Stevie Fairbourne..... he hated every beach he fished on but always returned for another go the following year until ill health in 2010 prevented him from doing so just short of his 77th Birthday!! 25 great family fishing holidays from 1984 - 2009. A much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather to us....to others, a grumpy opinionated old bugger but would do anything for anyone and someone who when he believed in something, always saw it through to the end!

  35. I’m so sorry to hear of the death of our old friend, fellow competitor and chirpy Scouser John Williams. He was always so genuinely happy to be in Dingle, fishing the wonderful Kerry beaches (in whatever conditions) and competing in the Irish Pairs – John is yet another who will be sadly missed by all.
He was so chuffed when he caught that Painted Ray on Banna Strand last year – he got such a round of applause at the presentation, everyone was so pleased for him when the ray won the best specimen of the week.
Please send my condolences to John’s family – we’ll raise a glass or two in his memory at the Pairs later this year. We’ll miss, but always remember him – God bless you John and rest in peace.

  40. Big Ian
How we miss his big bubbly personality at the Pairs. And how we miss his glorious singing of the old classics. I wii make sure I have a few pernods next year in his honour.. He was a great character to have sitting at the bar, always smiling and talking to everyone.

  41. Hi guys, sorry to bring more bad news to the table but our wonderful mate Big Ian Joyce from Blackpool has died. Ian was a stalwart from the Wine Strand days. A man generous to a fault. He became a fixture at the corner of the bar at Paudies, and was always the last man to leave, usually with his great mate Dave Hutch. A huge man with a huge capacity for pernod. I can see Kathleen panicking because her booze delivery was delayed and Big Eee was due in Dingle that night. Ian was someone who new every song in the songbook. Dean Martin being one of his most brilliant renditions. I will miss you Big man, the Irish Pairs has lost another Brother.

  44. R.I.P.Ray - life won't ever quite be the same without your dry wit and humour. Thanks for all the good tmes and endless happy memories we've shared over the years, but not just with the fishing. You've always been there for me - someone I could rely on and turn to for help and advice with ANYTHING. Thanks Ray, you're a true legend, gone but will NEVER be forgotten.

  45. Very sad to hear about Ray. He was a smashing guy, he did exactly what it says on the tin. No nonsense down to earth, no back stabbing with him. he would tell you to your face what he thought. He will be sadly missed by all the Kerrymen. Our thoughts are with Andrew and his family

    Posted on

  46. So sorry to get the news about Ray. I really missed him this year at the pairs. I loved his company & sitting talking to him every night. It was n't the same without him. He was one of the best. God bless him.xx

  47. Sorry to hear the sad news of Ray passing away, will miss his wry sense of humour and dry wit. He was a pleasure to fish with in the matches, and really good company in the bar afterwards, we used to talk about rugby league, he was always taking the mick out of me missing the Wigan games when in Ireland. my deepest sympathy to Andrew, and to the rest of his family and friends.

  48. A great tribute Ian to a great fella. Really sad to hear the news and we will all miss 'grumpy' Ray with his fantastic dry sense of humour who was a real pairs stalwart and friend. Condolences to all his family and friends at this difficult time.

  49. A sad message to all Kerry men. The great Raymond J Hornby has passed away. A wonderful guy, loved by many. He leaves his son Andrew, a past Pairs winner, daughter Joanna, and his partner Sandra. A man of few words, many of them derrogatory. Twice winner of the Old Git prize, and well known as one of the Glums. They just don't make them like that anymore. Dryest of wit, and humour. A great story I remember is Ray fishing Ventry (his most special place) he was on a stick due to knee surgery, caused by playing football at 4am in the morning at Wine Strand Cottages. He won his section with a hatful of dogs. As I sat in the car park with him two guys said " I can't believe it some old cripple on a stick battered the zone!" Ray, chewed on his cigarette,, and with smoke billowing round his face said to them "you've a lot to learn cock!" To the point. RIP Raymond we loved you.

Cubian crissis will av nothing compared 2 this. Cross of St george take the red cross off it and start waving it u will need 2 surrender after taking a beating from the WELSH. Good god tony BLOOMERS won't need your name in them will know yours by the stains lol that GARYS left in them lol looking 4ward 2 meeting up again shame about blackpool ,that would av been 6points 4 THE JACK ARMY.

  77. Yes Tony i will be in the States at the same time as you and as for a day on a boat/night out at hooters? damn straight cant wait better bring a hat wouldnt want your shiny ead getting burnt no would we?

As for the Welsh flag the only difference i can see between the English flag and the Welsh one is that yours will be on fire

As for Cardiff Brighton and Blackpool the championship awaits i for one am glad to see the back of the W Ham and bloody playoffs

    Posted on

  78. As we get there first we will have had time to position our huge cross of st george flag in prime veiw. there will be no dragons except the ones Gary picks up. If stacey cut all that hair off you would have twice as much room in your motor to bring essentials like chocolate and red bull to get you through the week. Will get my wife to write my name in my vests and pants so you kinky Welsh gits dont steal them for your depraved fetishes.

    Posted on

  79. So, Tony and Gavin are in America together, the phrase "diplomatic incident" springs to mind.
As to Mr Ryder and the speed camaras, wouldn't think they would affect John. The only time I have ever seen him move fast was when Budge suggested it was his turn to buy the beer.
Good idea to bring the Welsh flag to hang up at the cottages boys, we are always running out of rags to clean mucky hands, and Hazel would save a fortune on Kleenex if it was by his window.

ps, Good luck T'Pool at play-off final, need a good away day with the Mighty Wigan Athletic, was badly let down by Cardiff and Brighton, again.

  80. Yes stacey did say u were meeting up in florida and having a day on the boat. Glad ur hiring the gear as stacey wouldn,t av a bloody trace made or any bait lol. Nice 2 know your crown jewels r still intact not bad 4 something that's been redundant 4 years lol. Stacey is looking 4ward 2 meetinh up with u and sorting out what and what not 2 take 2 ireland, as stacey thinks I av an eddie stobbart truck when we go hair dryer, tongs, kitchen sink etc. Can't wait 2 meet up as the welsh dragon flag we have will cover the outside of the digs.hear from u soon Tony LET THE WAR COMMENSE . Disappointed, I have had no requests to join Big Jim and I on our specemin hunts in the Marina Inn - obviously real anglers are entering the competition. I shall have to alert my partner that he may need to fish more than 3 times during our 10 days in God's Own County. Good to hear you are all well and ready fo another tour. Remember to re chec the rules about cars on t beaches, both during the competition, and during specimen hunts. Important stuff. Stress, what stress, have another Guinness..

Seriously, i wish you boys all the best and hope you finish in a very respectable runners up position, my cash is on a 2-1 to the gulls, the Southampton to draw and we go top, One can dream!

  105. Forty-three days on my counter - crikey, I wish mine wasn't working I've got stacks to do! Tom Crean Promotion eh Daz - I'll have to make sure I've got my teeth in when I go and buy Shakey a beer - a pint of "tom crean lemonade top", what a mouth full! Unfortunately Gary (Hazelgrove), I don't think Buddy & I will be coming down to watch the "Mighty Pool" at weekend. I had to take what work I could and will just have to sit at home and prey we don't get turned over (it could be a long week)!!!!! If anything changes though - I'll let you know one way or another. See you all soon - can't wait, it's gonna be good!!!

  107. just a heads up for those that intended to travel on the swansea cork sailing on weds 28th sept , this sailing now appears to have been cancelled , and people have been informed by email .

(never checks emails , hence this note )

im not sure how its working eg refunds or re scheduling sailings but hopefully everybody that booked on this sailing can find a alternative booking .

  108. Yes Darren, the clock is back, reminds me I had better get a move on and get some gear together.
Re the new brewery, just what we need in Dingle, more beer.
Just had a call from a very upset Mr Royal, apparently Swansea - Cork ferry cancelled his sailing and the alternative dates they have given means either he has to be very nice to Mrs Royal for a couple of weeks and arrive early, or arrive after the 1st match. Its going to be very quiet without him at Cappa, isn't it

  109. Messrs Royall and Booth - countdown clock should have been restored (well I can see it on mine). Let me know if still having problems.

  110. Absolutely Darren. Consider it done. Molly's arriving today for a few days. I'll give him a sample & tell him to post a comment on what he thinks of it.

  113. Thought you'd like to know lads a new Dingle lager was launched last month.

It's called Tom Crean's ( after the polar explorer)or Crean's as its being called.

It's brewed in Dingle in a new brewery located on the Spa Road in town, just at the fork in the road where you follow the road round to the left to go up Connor Pass. It's made from local spring water and is selling like hot cakes.

You can go on a tour of the brewery, with of course a sample at the end of the tour.

We had it put in the bar this week and the response to it is very good.

  118. Just watched that great video, happy days, couple of things spring to mind. Nick scrubs up well with a camera pointed at him, posh voice as well, not one swear word. And Mr Fogerty senior, can actually understand what he is saying better in Gealic than English. Your right about Hazel Tony, no wonder he goes through a lot of pens while we are there!

  119. After watching this video it comes to my knowledge what a great fish witness and card signer Gary Hazelgrove is. He looked so profesional signing in Nicks fish, any one would be lucky to have such card signer next to them. Well done Gaz we have finally found something your good for. lol

  127. Jim Am very sorry to see you are back in the championship after a super year in the top flight, hope you enjoyed it while it lasted, but hay ho shit happens. worse things could happen, drawing a low peg by the car park at Ventry( that did happen to you one year and you bagged up with bass) or the pairs not being on. That would be a disaster,or Andy Booth winning the pairs how bad would that be? 70 other pairs comitting suicide because life not worth living anymore.
You and Ian are welcome to come down for the week end they play at Brighton, BUT you cant wear those nice little tangerine shirts as faggots down here would love them in the blue oyster bar. looking forward to see you all in kerry.

  128. Well, the Mighty Wigan survived to struggle another year in the top flight, just, my sympathy to Big Jim and Ian, so sorry for Blackpool. But ey, never mind, Tony Royall and Taylor looking forward to seeing you Tangerine boys next season, just a bit further for you to travel. And the southern beer is crap!

Please don't give me any tickets if we both meet at wembley coz if they do, think wembly will need reconstruction. Can't wait 2 get back 4 this years pairs and sink a few of the black.

Hoping all you Kerrymen out there are going to book early with Nick - places are limited and I know there will be a number of regulars returning after a few years gap... As the countdown ticks towards our annual tour to the West coast my thoughts wondered on to all the Specimen hunts that Big Jim and I have taken on over the past 25 years!! I would recommend you all try a specimen hunt with us, you won't lose any tackle, use much bait, or get back ache through too much casting. Just a few Euros light and a belly full of beer. Join us in the Marina Inn, everyday.. For more top ways to get the most from your Pairs trip don't be shy, just ask.

  164. Hello Maddie Eater - it's always nice to see a new face and hope you enjoy your time at the Pairs as much as we all do.

There's no bans on additives or any baits whatsoever so good luck and "tight lines" with whatever you bring along. See you soon and have a safe journey, Big Jim.

  168. Good to get the discussions going lads - I only said it to stimulate your organs, but judging by some of the comments it looks like I'm already in line for the prestigious "dick of the week" award which would actually be my hat-rick and something I'd be very proud of!!!!! Can't wait to see you all again - I've missed you! Milltown mud for me this year Mr Booth - I'm targeting the bigger maddies and only putting three on each hook, that way I won't need to dig as many "Northern Logic"! Have a safe journey everybody and see you all in Dingle - BRING IT ON!!!!

    Posted on

  169. I will certainly miss you Snowy, will have enough fags to last the week now!!
From your comments Jim, I presume Skip Pool creek is not stuffed to the gills with creeper. Will have to be the Milltown mud then, oh joy. How does Tony fit into Snowy's chesties? Unless that diet did to his height what it was supposed to do to his waist.

    Posted on

  170. It's alrigt for you Snowy - you don't even have to bend your back to pick the little sods out the mud! Shame you won't be here this year cock - you'll be missed by one and all, but will send your best to "Billy the Bass"!!!!!

  171. You will be missed Chris but dont worry your waders will be there to represent you. except they will be on me. should i blank it will your fault. Keep the maddies Jim as any advantage us smaller blokes have the better.Under 3 weeks to go and i cant wait am waking up in the night and thinking of what not to forget. I think the banter should start now

  172. Jim , you know full well us southerners dont know how to tie on a sandeel and fish for anything other than flounder and goby , bait bans are for clubs with no members , ban the maddie and fully expect a south coast no show next year .

I imagine on hearing that news , Mr H will be preparing his next years no Maddies speech :)

Safe trip see you soon . Tay

  174. Well hope you all have great weather and the fishing is kind
    See you next year

    Posted on

  175. Three weeks to go and not so many comments coming in lads! How's this for a contentious issue - bait bans on certain venues ie only maddies to be used on either Inch or Brandon. Reasons - at 6ft 5" I'm suseptable to a "BAD BACK" especially after digging masses of those horror worms and if I'm on a "Doggie" venue like Ventry, a Skate venue like Rhosbeigh or a "Stinger" venue like Cappaclough - why the hell would I want to fish for a few scratty flats? Let's make life easy for ourselves and ban these bleedin' horrors, I hate Maddies!!!!!

    Posted on

  176. Oh dear, what have I let myself in for? In a moment of madness I said I would get the 2 Blackpool fanatics some tickets, trouble is, they will be sitting with me and my boy in the Wigan end. Can I trust them to sit quietly, even in the unlikely event of Blackpool scoring, for 90 mins? Watch Match Of The Day on 14th, hope you don't see either of them being escorted along the touchline by a steward!!!

    Posted on

  177. Less than 60 days to go now my fellow Dinglers - trust all your rigs are up and ready? Thanks Tony for your good and kind wishes, but I'm afraid that wee doggie still hurts and I can't wait to try and get my own back - see you at Cappa my ol' buddy. Off digging soon - more blacks for the freezer and next stop INCH! Andy, see you on the 14th with the mighty POOL and its 4200 travelling Barmy Army - take care all and see you very soon in Dingle with a pint of the black stuff in me mit! Jimbo
